In 2026, Miles Davis – one of the most innovative and visionary artists in music history – would have turned 100. We are celebrating this with a very special tribute concert, where four international top musicians come together to reinvent and reinterpret the legacy of Miles Davis. Miles Davis’ five-decade career shaped not only the development of jazz, but the entire music of the 20th century. From Birth of the Cool to Kind of Blue, from the avant-garde post-bop universe to the electric, experimental 70s and the pop comeback of the 80s – Miles was constantly moving forward. He challenged everything and everyone, including himself. Therefore, this tribute is not a reconstruction, but a continued movement in his spirit: free, brave and curious.
Tonight’s ensemble has gathered precisely to take this idea seriously. Markus Stockhausen, one of Europe’s most distinctive trumpet voices, is characterized by his sonic courage, his spiritual approach and his ability to move freely between jazz, classical music and electroacoustic landscapes. He is flanked by Benjamin Koppel, whose lyrical and energetic saxophone playing creates natural bridges between tradition and daring. The rhythm section consists of Swedish bassist Johnny Åman – melodic, down-to-earth and grounded – and the legendary American drummer Jeff Ballard, who has been a driving force in modern jazz for decades with his explosive, imaginative and sound-sensitive playing. Together, the quartet creates a reimagining of Miles Davis: a musical journey through improvisation, sound sculptures, electronic colors and open structures. Not a nostalgic retrospective – but a lively celebration of the restless creativity that made Miles Davis an icon.
